How vivePDF turns PDFs into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, pictures, text, Markdown, HTML and EPUB, and makes PDFs from pictures, Office files, SVG and web pages.

vivePDF converts PDFs into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, pictures, text, Markdown, HTML and EPUB, and makes PDFs from pictures, Office documents, SVG drawings and web pages. Everything lives in one tool, Tools › Convert, and your files are converted on your own computer.

How to convert

  1. Open Tools › Convert. In the Tools menu it sits in the From PDF group.
  2. Pick a conversion from the list on the left: the options under From PDF turn a PDF into another format, and those under To PDF create a PDF.
  3. Choose your file and check the options. When converting from a PDF, type a page range if you only want some of the pages.
  4. Click Convert. When it finishes, Open output folder in the result panel on the right takes you to the new file.

From PDF to other formats

  • PDF → Word: makes a layout-preserving .docx with its tables and images. With Move repeated headers and footers into Word on, text repeated on most pages becomes the Word header and footer, and page numbers become a Word page number field.
  • PDF → Excel: tables on the pages go to separate worksheets; the text of pages without a table goes line by line to a sheet of its own. You can choose .xlsx or .csv as the file type, and lay out the tables One per table, One per page or All tables on one sheet. Also find tables without lines reads columns lined up by spacing alone as well.
  • PDF → PowerPoint: each page becomes a slide. With Editable text, the text goes into editable boxes over a picture of the rest of the page; Picture only places an exact picture of each page and puts the page text into the speaker notes.
  • PDF → JPG / PNG: each page becomes a picture. Choose PNG, JPG, WebP or TIFF and a resolution (DPI) from 72 to 600. There are also options to join the pages into one tall picture, make a single multi-page TIFF, pack the pictures into one ZIP file, save in greyscale or keep a transparent background.
  • Extract images: saves every picture embedded in the pages at its original resolution.
  • PDF → Text, PDF → Markdown, PDF → HTML: give you plain text, Markdown that keeps headings and tables, or a single HTML file with one section per page. For Markdown you can leave pictures out, save them in a folder next to the file or put them inside the file.
  • PDF → EPUB: makes a reflowable e-book for phones and e-readers. You can choose how chapters are divided, the book title, the author and whether the first page is the cover.

Scanned PDFs

A scanned page holds a picture rather than text. For Text, Markdown, HTML and EPUB, turn on Read pages without text with OCR; the PDF itself is not changed. For Word, Excel and PowerPoint, run OCR on the document first, then convert it.

From other files to PDF

  • Images → PDF: combines pictures, or a whole folder of them, into one PDF. You can Include subfolders, sort by name or date, set a margin, and choose whether each picture fits on the page or fills it.
  • Office → PDF: Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents are converted with LibreOffice. TXT, Markdown, HTML, EPUB, XPS, CBZ and picture files convert directly.
  • SVG → PDF: turns drawings from Inkscape, Illustrator or Figma into vector PDF pages at their own size. With Put every drawing in one PDF on, each drawing becomes a page of the same file.
  • Web page → PDF: downloads a web address and saves it as a PDF. Reader mode keeps only the main article and leaves menus and sidebars out; Include pictures adds or drops the pictures.

The one conversion that needs internet

Web page → PDF goes online to download the page, so it is not available while Offline mode is on. Every other conversion runs on your computer without internet.

LibreOffice

Office conversions use LibreOffice. It comes with the Windows installer, and you can remove or reinstall it in Settings › Tools. Without LibreOffice, Office files you add to the list show a needs LibreOffice warning. Setup details are on the Installation page.

Where the result is saved

By default the new file is written next to the source, with a suffix that names the tool. In Settings › Files you can switch Where to save to Fixed folder and pick an output folder, and use the name pattern to decide how files are named. Converting never changes your original file.
